A magnet is a material or object that produces a magnetic field. Some materials can be magnetized, such as ferrite magnet and rare earth magnet. Soft magnet can be magnetised by a magnetic field but do not remain magnetised when the field is removed, and permanent magnet is made from a magnetically hard material that stays magnetized when magnetic field is removed.
